When Your Parent Has a Mental Illness: Tips and Stories From Young People of Quebec
Co-written by Aude Villatte and Geneviève Piché, co-directors of LaPProche Laboratory, and in collaboration with CAP santé mentale, this project was developed by young people for young people, following a photovoice project illustrating problems and possible solutions through photography.
While primarily intended for 12- to 25-year-olds who have a parent with a mental illness, this guide is of interest to everyone, including parents, grandparents and caregivers working in the field. It answers questions about hospitalization and medication and provides concrete ways to set boundaries and communicate effectively. It also contains stories, practical tips and other information to help support the well-being of young people.
When Your Parent Has a Mental Illness features several interactive activities designed to help young people reflect on their support network, identify their needs and implement ways to keep their balance.
